Love the additonal phone in my kitchen, does not need a phone jack, the phone base. It is handsfree, just what I need when a call comes and I am working in the kitchen.
I bought the base set with 2 extensions, needed one more for the basement. No problem setting up and the fact that only regular electric sockets are used for the extra phones is such a plus. Great phone.
I previously had a GE set that was terrible: its volume and brightness on the additional handset was noticeably lower, and the caller ID worked about 25% of the time. All these phones work fantastic. I purchased this handset to go with the KX-TG6313S set of 3. Doing shift work for a living and sleeping at different times I do not find a need for the Panasonic's "no ring at night" feature, but I do use the alarm feature. Adding the additional handset was a breeze. The shared phonebook was automatically entered into the new handset, and the caller ID works without a hitch. It would be helpful if there was a display indication when the alarm was set, and I do miss the GE's ability to turn off all ringers from the base. But aside from that, this Panasonic is the best phone set I've ever used.
Panasonic Additional Handset (KX-TGA630S)The KX-TGA630S is a good basic handset for the Panasonic DECT phone system.
Then my wife suggested we get an additional Panasonic handset, since we keep the base phone in our second floor bedroom. We'd gotten the Panasonic base phone with no additional handsets after a bad experience with a Coby CT-P9050 5.8 GHz phone we had just bought also thru Amazon.com. That's the same floor where I have my office, while she spends most of her time on our main floor where the kitchen/dining room/living room are; or she'll watch TV after the dishes till bedtime at the lakefront floor below the main floor. The sound quality on the Coby phone was awful and we had returned it. So expectations were "cautious."This Panasonic, on the other hand, has incredible sound quality. With the extra handset and base just off the dining room, we can have a phone convenient to answer calls when we eat dinner, and then she can carry the handset alone downstairs to communicate with me two floors apart using the intercom feature of the phones. For a 4-story townhouse, it's super-convenient--and, again, the sound quality is great.
